About Me

My name is Lauren Miller. I received my BS from the University of Central Florida and went on to receive my MOT from the University of St. Augustine. I am a licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Tennessee and a certified Lymphedema Therapist. My passion is helping people who are suffering with lymphedema/swelling. Lymphedema is a chronic, progressive condition, but that does not mean you cannot live your best life. Often, patients suffer with swelling for a long time, without ever receiving an answer as to why. I am here to provide education and high-quality treatment to help you understand and take control of your journey with lymphedema.

What is the Lymphatic System?

When is MLD beneficial? ANYTIME, but especially:

What does MLD help with?

The lymphatic system is the body’s detox system and sewer system for fluids.

It plays an important role in the circulatory and immune systems. Most people have never heard of its useful function, until there is a malfunction. The lymphatic system is made up of tubes called collectors, which are in charge of carrying fluid, and lymph nodes which are small organs grouped in clusters that filter fluid. Bone marrow, the spleen, and intestinal lymph tissue are also part of the lymphatic system working together to make up the immune system.

The Lymphatic System's primary job is to carry away cellular waste produced as part of normal metabolism. Cells use the nutrients from the blood to rid the body of bacteria, viruses, and other microbes that are killed by the immune cells. It also works to transport long-chain fats we eat (the unhealthy kind) into the bloodstream as they are absorbed from the intestines. Ultimately, lymphatic fluid becomes urine.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), also known as lymph work, uses light pressure and specific strokes to increase the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body The powerful but gentle technique is designed to detoxify the body of excess lymph fluid in patients with lymphedema. It is also used to reroute lymphatic fluid and reduce swelling after many types of surgeries.
